The curse has always accompanied Selaphina, who once was a member of the royal aristocracy and survived a widespread epidemic, but was thus marked as a witch. 

Before she was tortured to death, she seemed to see a black mist soaked in blood seeping into her body. In that moment, she was transformed. From then on, she has always followed Cain, who saved her, and declared her loyalty to him.
